Cutting Cycle Times by 75% with Wisconsin Gear & Machine

A family business built on precision, modernized for the future

Wisconsin Gear & Machine has been producing gears, splines, and custom components for packaging, paper, agriculture, and general industrial markets since the 1940s. Jeff Kamps, who grew up in the business and became president after his father passed in 2015, had watched the shop run on older mechanical hobbing equipment for years.

When cycle times and staffing pressures made modernization unavoidable, he did his research and reached out to Helios Gear Products.

Slashing cycle times from 4 hours to 30 minutes.

After evaluating the Hera 350 through demos and conversations with Helios Regional Sales Manager Jason Spitzer, Jeff made the investment. The impact was immediate. Cycle times that previously ran four hours or more dropped to around thirty minutes on comparable jobs, and overall machine time and runtime fell to roughly a quarter of what it had been.

The Hera's rigidity allowed for heavier cuts at higher RPMs, and pairing the machine with better tooling pushed productivity even further.

Better output, better shop floor.

Part quality improved and so did the energy on the shop floor. Operators enjoy running the new equipment, and the Hera has made Wisconsin Gear more attractive to workers in a market where skilled labor is hard to find. Helios provided thorough on-site training at installation and has been fast to respond to any service needs since. Jeff says he would buy more machines from Helios without hesitation.
